Lakshmi Hembram

My name is Lakshmi Hembram, and I belong to a small village called Magru in Potka Block, Jharkhand. Our village is located far away from the city, surrounded by nature and simplicity. Like many children in my village, I began my education in the local school without ever imagining how much my life would change in the years to come.

Later, I got an opportunity to study in a girls' school in Potka. It was there that I was introduced to many new activities and experiences. Among them, painting became something very special to me. The more I painted, the more I discovered a new world within myself.

One day, a team from GR8DESIGNS visited our school. During their visit, Kumar Vivek Sir noticed my paintings and encouraged me. He told me that I had talent and that I should continue learning and growing as an artist. I shared with him the difficulties my family was facing. Like many families in our village, we struggled financially, and continuing my education seemed uncertain.

Vivek Sir assured me that my education would not stop because of financial problems. With his support, I was able to take admission in a professional painting course. Today, I am pursuing a Diploma in Painting and working hard to improve my skills every day.

As my paintings began to receive appreciation and sales, I started contributing to my family's needs. Slowly, our situation improved. This gave me confidence and a sense of responsibility. I dream of becoming financially independent and supporting not only myself but also my younger brothers and their education.
In my village, many people believe that girls should get married as soon as they grow up. I often hear such suggestions. But whenever I return home during holidays, I carry my paintings with me and share my journey with others. Many young girls from my village come to see my work and tell me, “Didi, we want to become like you. We also want to study and do something meaningful in life.”

Those words inspire me deeply.

Knowing that my journey can encourage even one child to dream bigger makes me feel proud and grateful. If my story can help other children believe in themselves, then every struggle I faced has been worthwhile.
I still have a long way to go, but I carry a simple dream in my heart—to continue learning, continue creating, support my family, and inspire many more children to believe that their dreams are possible.

Painting gave me a voice. Education gave me confidence. And support gave me a future.
