Sapna Mardi

Sapna Mardi

My name is Sapna Mardi, and I come from a small village called Narayanpur in the Ghatsila region of Jharkhand.

Life changed for my family in 2021 when my father passed away. Since then, my mother has been taking care of me and my brother on her own. Like many families in our village, we depend on hard work to survive. We collect firewood from the forest, sell it in the local market, and do farming to support our household. Whatever we earn from selling wood and crops helps us meet our daily needs.

I studied in my village school until Class 5 and later joined Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya. Since childhood, I have always loved drawing and painting. Whenever I found time, I would sketch or create something from my imagination. Art was never a subject for me—it was something that brought me happiness.

After completing my Class 10 board examinations, I joined KGBV Potka. There, I got the opportunity to attend painting classes. For the first time in my life, I worked on a large canvas. It was a completely new experience, and I instantly fell in love with it. I realized that painting was not just my hobby—it was what I wanted to pursue in life.

One day, a team from GR8DESIGNS visited our school. They looked at my paintings and asked me a simple question:

"Do you want to take your art forward?"

Without hesitation, I replied, "Yes. I want to become a professional artist."

That conversation became a turning point in my life.

With their encouragement and support, I received admission to a Bachelor of Fine Arts program. More than that, they stood beside me during a time when pursuing higher education seemed impossible. Their support with my education and fees has allowed me to continue my journey as an artist.

Today, I dream of creating meaningful artwork, building a career through my passion, and becoming financially independent. I want to support my family and make my mother proud of everything she has sacrificed for us.

Whenever I meet younger girls, I tell them one thing:

No matter how difficult life becomes, never stop studying and never stop believing in yourself.

Challenges will come, but dreams become possible when we keep moving forward.

My journey is still beginning, but every painting I create reminds me that even from a small village, a big dream can find its way into the world.

Art gave me confidence. Education gave me direction. And hope gave me the courage to keep going.
