Sobhima Soren

Johar,

My name is Sobhima Soren, and I come from a small village called Goalkata Tola, Pulasbuni in Jharkhand.

There are four members in my family—my father, mother, brother, and me. Like many families in our village, we earn our livelihood through hard work. We collect leaves from the nearby hills and forests and make traditional leaf plates, which are then sold in the market. My father also brings home cloth materials from nearby villages for stitching. Together, as a family, we stitch and deliver them, earning just enough to support our household.

Growing up, I was always fascinated by the paintings and designs we created on the walls of our home. Decorating our house with different traditional patterns was a part of our culture, and without realizing it, art became a part of my life. I loved drawing and painting, and whenever I got an opportunity, I would spend time creating something new.

During my school days, I started participating in painting activities and gradually developed a deep interest in art. One day, a team from GR8DESIGNS visited our school. They noticed my paintings and appreciated my work. During our conversation, they asked me whether I would like to continue painting in the future.

At that time, I had never imagined that art could become a career. The idea seemed far beyond my reach.

Then they asked me another question:

"If we help you get admission, will you continue your studies in art?"

Without hesitation, I said yes.

That moment changed my life.

With their support, I was able to take admission in Jamshedpur and begin my journey in the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) program. For the first time, I saw a world where creativity could become a profession. I learned new techniques, explored different forms of art, and gained confidence in my abilities.

Through exhibitions and art showcases, people started appreciating and purchasing my paintings. Knowing that my artwork could contribute to my family's income filled me with pride and responsibility. It showed me that talent, when given an opportunity, can truly change lives.

Today, when I look back, I often think about how different my life might have been if that visit had never happened. I may never have discovered the possibility of building a future through art.

I am deeply grateful for the support I received, and I am determined to continue growing as an artist. My dream is to establish myself professionally, support my family, and inspire other girls from villages like mine to believe in their own potential.

My journey has taught me that opportunities can arrive unexpectedly, but it is courage and hard work that help us make the most of them.

Art gave me a path. Education gave me confidence. And hope gave me the strength to dream beyond my circumstances.
